Rangers transfer news as several moves now on cards at Ibrox in January

Rangers are currently working on “several” new transfers for between now and the end of January, according to TEAMtalk.

The website reported [17 January] that Philippe Clement is in much need of new players during the January transfer window, with the club now in overdrive.

The Belgian has experienced success since taking over the managerial reins in October, winning the Viaplay Cup and reaching the Europa League knockout stages.

Stamping his mark

The Gers squad is mainly made up of Michael Beale’s additions from the summer transfer window when the former Rangers boss went on a spending spree.

Ibrox welcomed the likes of Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers, Danilo and Jose Cifuentes on permanent deals with a very limited budget, with Clement now stuck with the selection of players that do not tend to fit his style of play.

However, he has made the best of a bad situation, going on a 16-game unbeaten streak before losing to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership at the end of December. And if Rangers want to lift the league title again, they must make additions.

The squad has been plagued by injury this season, with Tom Lawrence, Ryan Jack Kemar Roofe and Danilo all out injured, which has been a common theme.

Clement’s selection has been stripped to its bare bones, forcing him to play some players out of position, such as full-back Dujon Sterling in the centre of midfield. And despite that transformation working out, it is hardly a long-term solution.

Rangers fans will be pleased to hear that the club are attempting to recruit new players. But with their budget mostly spent in the summer, it will be interesting to see where the funds come from.

In other Rangers news, a £4.8million bid update has emerged as development occurs in Gers’ quest to seal a January signing.
