David Jurasek being pushed out of Benfica, Rangers transfer on cards
Benfica are pushing David Jurasek out of the club this month and the player is preparing for an exit with Rangers keen to sign him, according to O Jogo.
Writing on their website (16 January), the Portuguese news outlet report that the player isn’t wanted at the Estadio Da Luz following the signing of Manchester United youngster Alvaro Fernandez.
Rangers are keen to bring in a new left-back with Ridvan Yilmaz rumoured to be close to an exit out of Ibrox, and the Portuguese club are clearly open to letting Croatian Jurasek leave.

“The arrival of Álvaro Fernández to the squad led by Roger Schmidt pushes David Jurásek out of Luz,” they wrote.
“Unable to assert himself with an eagle on his chest, the left-back, signed at the beginning of the season, is preparing to leave the group in this January market, and there is no shortage of interested parties.”
Interesting
It’s odd that Benfica would splash £10m+ on signing this left-back in the summer only to be willing to get rid of him in January, and it should raise some big questions.
Why won’t they play him? Why hasn’t he impressed the manager? Why are they so willing to take their loss and let him leave so soon after he arrived?

All of these things need to be considered before Rangers are willing to get him in to do a job, especially if we’re willing to get rid of Ridvan to bring him in.
The Turkish defender has been really good in recent months and has been playing in the friendlies during the winter break, which suggests that he is not being outcasted or left on the sidelines if a move doesn’t happen.
Whatever happens it has to benefit Rangers more than it doesn’t, and Jurasek would certainly be a solid signing to push Ridvan and Borna Barisic to the next level.
