Rangers transfer news: Ridvan Yilmaz now wants to join Galatasaray with loan deal tabled

Ridvan Yilmaz is now willing to join Galatasaray as he looks to leave Rangers this month for more regular game time, according to Sabah.

Writing on their website (16 January), the Turkish news outlet report that the Istanbul club want to sign the 22-year-old left-back on loan, while Rangers want a permanent deal to raise cash.

Reports suggested that Yilmaz wanted to stay in mainland Europe with a move to Serie A seemingly on the cards, but he is now open to a return to his homeland with a spot in the Turkey squad for Euro 2024 up for grabs.

“Galatasaray management knocked on Rangers’ door for Ridvan,” they wrote.

“Even though it is written in the foreign press that the player will be transferred with a transfer fee of 4 million Euros, Cimbom will push the rental formula.

“Rıdvan is positive about the possibility of being transferred on loan to the yellow-red club in order to wear the National Team uniform in the European Championship.”

Odd

This whole situation is increasingly odd for Rangers and fans to understand, because it seems like nobody knows what is going on.

There had been talk about a move to Italy in exchange for Josh Doig, but that fell through when Doig agreed a move to Marseille, only for that transfer to now fall through and Fabrizio Romano to claim Rangers were never interested.

Yilmaz started the friendly defeat against Hertha Berlin and is expected to play in the friendly against Copenhagen on Tuesday, which suggests he is firmly in the plans of Philippe Clement.

But the talk of a move away from Ibrox in the coming weeks doesn’t seem to be going away, and there is no smoke without fire so something must be going on in the background.

The player has seemingly made his u-turn now and is willing to move to Galatasaray, and the clubs are reportedly in talks, so we may be closer to a move than ever before. This is one to keep an eye on before the window shuts in two weeks.
