Rangers transfer news: Michael Beale update emerges after January window approach made for Luca Langoni
Luca Langoni was a Rangers transfer target during Michael Beale’s ill-fated summer transfer window but proved too expensive, according to Football Scotland.
The outlet reported via their website later on 15 January that the same situation still applies for the 21-year-old as transfer rivals Sevilla and Nice are weighing up “big-money moves” for the winger who is considered “one of Argentina’s most exciting prospects”.
It was reported earlier the same day that the Light Blues had made an approach during the January transfer window to Boca Juniors over a potential deal for the Fulham-linked attacker, who is tipped to move to Europe in the summer [Standard, 15 January].

Beale spent heavily as he made nine signings prior to the season, with the bulk of the cash going on the underwhelming striker trio of Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers and Danilo.
The Dutchman has already left again on loan this month, while Clement has only so far added Fabio Silva on the same basis.

A player that is attracting interest from the English Premier League, Ligue 1 and La Liga already is never going to be straightforward to bring to the SPFL.
But if Rangers have been on Langoni’s case since the summer and still got in touch again looking at a potential move this month they may believe they can convince the young wide man that he would be best served in his development by making a stop in Glasgow for a year or two before heading to a top five league.
Although the Ibrox board suggested during the recent AGM that the manager would still be backed despite the spending under Beale [Rangers Review, 5 December] there has only so far been one new temporary addition.

There is unlikely to be a huge amount to spend in January either way, but the club are feasibly still targeting a treble this season.
Langoni would appear to be a sought-after talent who Rangers have put some ground work in with so the prospect of a further push in the summer can’t be ruled out.
But if he impresses in the new Argentinian season then it is likely to only increase interest in him, and transfer rivals may simply offer money that the Gers can’t match.
The club seem to have got in early so if they have been able to make a compelling case to the youngster or his club they may still have a shout for what sounds like it would be some coup in the market, but it will no doubt be a challenge.
In other Rangers news, Clement has confirmed further January transfer plans from La Manga.
