Rangers January transfer update as Ridvan Yilmaz demand emerges from Turkey
Turkey boss Vincenzo Montella has demanded Ridvan Yilmaz play regularly if he wants to make the Euro 2024 squad, making a Rangers exit more likely, according to Fanatik journalist Gokmen Ozcan.
The Turkish journalist reported on 15 January that Yilmaz will only play sporadically if he remains at Ibrox in January, but a move to Galatasaray or Verona would give him the first-team football he needs.
It was also shared that the player’s priority is to remain in Europe and play regularly, although Galatasaray’s push to sign him ended negatively.
No smoke without fire
The talk about Yilmaz and whether or not he will leave Ibrox this January has been pretty much non-stop since the transfer window opened, and with interest from several clubs reported, there is no smoke without fire.
Now, a demand from his international boss telling him he needs to play regularly if he wants to go to the Euros will add more fuel to that fire, as yet another reason for him to depart Ibrox in search of first-team football elsewhere in Europe.
Talks now appear to be speeding up for Yilmaz’s exit from Ibrox, with Verona well-placed to get that deal done in the coming weeks, although with only two weeks to go of the transfer window, those talks will need to speed up to get it over the line.
As stories regarding his future continue to rumble on, it may be better for all parties if there is a swift departure for the Turkish left-back which would allow both the club and the player to move on to other priorities this month.
