Rangers transfer news as Fabrizio Romano drops Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo update

Rangers may look to capitalise as Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on Nottingham Forest centre-back cum left-back Jonathan Panzo on 15 January.

The Sky Sports journalist reported that he’s back at the City Ground after his loan spell at Cardiff City and that the Premier League club are looking to let him leave again.

Sunday Mirror’s Darren Witcoop claimed on 3 August that he was on the cusp of moving to Ibrox in the summer but that move collapsed.

Via Twitter, Romano wrote, “Jonathan Panzo has returned to Nottingham Forest from his loan spell at Cardiff City.

“Understand Panzo will leave #NFFC again in January as all parties are looking for the best solutions with clubs keen on signing him.”

This could be the perfect chance for Gers to re-enter the quest to secure the services of the 23-year-old versatile English defender.

While Panzo has played mainly as a centre-back this season for Cardiff, he is also a left-back and is likely to play there should Gers make a move for him.

He was keen on joining them in the summer so there should not be any qualms over him wanting a loan move in January.

With Ridvan Yilmaz seemingly on his way out and Borna Barisic’s deal running out at the end of the season, it’s important Gers add someone on that side of their defence.

Panzo’s versatility gives Philippe Clement the option of playing him as a left-sided centre-back in a back three too and he can switch seamlessly from a back three to a back four if he’s got the Englishman in the side.

Rangers will, however, have to act soon as there are expected to be other clubs also ready to make a swoop.

In other Rangers news, a £4.8million bid update has emerged as development occurs in Gers’ quest to seal a January signing.
