Rangers transfer update emerges on Josh Doig as Fabrizio Romano shares news
Rangers were never working on a deal to sign Hellas Verona defender Josh Doig in the January transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist tweeted on Saturday (13 January) about the Gers’ lack of interest in bringing in the 21-year-old, who he revealed is now set to join Marseille.
He added that final details are now been sorted between the Ligue 1 club and Italian side Verona, with personal terms agreed with the Scottish left-back and medical tests to take place in the next few days.
Bizarre
It’s quite bizarre to hear that Rangers were never actually in the running to sign Doig in January after there have been so many reports to the contrary since the window started.
But Romano is often on the money with his transfer updates, so it’s extremely likely that the former Hibernian defender was never actually on their radar.
Perhaps the rumours surfaced purely because of Verona’s interest in signing Gers defender Ridvan Yilmaz this month as he looks like he could be heading out of Ibrox.

That would mean Philippe Clement will probably have to strengthen his options at left-back, with Croatian international Borna Barisic out of contract at the end of the season.
The Light Blues have been linked with several players in that position so far this month, but they still have more than a couple of weeks left to get someone through the door should Yilmaz leave.
In other Rangers news, an overseas journalist has made a “serious” admission about an exit-linked Gers player.
