Rangers: Michael Beale deserves credit for ‘phenomenal’ piece of business at Ibrox

Michael Beale deserves credit for bringing Jack Butland to Rangers during the summer transfer window, according to Hugh Keevins.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on Friday (12 January), the Daily Record journalist said the 30-year-old has been a “phenomenal signing” for the Gers since joining from Crystal Palace on a free transfer.

The English keeper’s form at the start of the season was one of the only shining lights for the Light Blues before Beale was relieved of his duties and replaced by Philippe Clement in October.

“I can not dispute that Jack Butland has been a phenomenal signing for Rangers,” said Keevins. “For all that Michael Beale got criticised and for all that Rangers sacked him, he brought Butland to the club and for that he deserves credit.”

Impressive

It’s no surprise that Butland has so far been a major hit with the Rangers fans after he’s put in a number of impressive performances so far this season.

In the early stages of the campaign, the keeper was put under pressure on numerous occasions every week as his side simply weren’t defending well enough, but he stood up to the challenge.

It will be difficult for the Gers supporters to praise Beale for bringing him to Ibrox, but it was undoubtedly the best piece of business he did during his overhaul of the squad last summer.

Rangers

The Englishman has probably been the club’s best player this season, with captain James Tavernier and forward Abdallah Sima also throwing their hats into the ring for that accolade.

After continuing to impress since Philippe Clement arrived at the club, the Light Blues boss will be keen to ensure he sticks around for years to come as he will no doubt be instrumental to any success they achieve moving forwards.

In other Rangers news, an overseas journalist has made a “serious” admission about an exit-linked Gers player.
