Rangers injury news as Tom Lawrence training update emerges
Tom Lawrence is back in first-team training with Rangers having recovered from his latest injury problem, according to the Daily Record.
The newspaper reported on its website on Saturday (13 January) that the Welsh international is back in training with Philippe Clement’s side as they continue their warm weather camp in La Manga during the Scottish Premiership’s winter break.
Rangers take on Hertha Berlin on Saturday in a friendly fixture and while Lawrence could well feature in the clash, he is unlikely to start having only recently stepped up his recovery.
The 30-year-old last featured for the Light Blues in the first week of December, but he was substituted only 18 minutes into the Gers’ clash with Hearts at Tynecastle as he continues to struggle with injury problems that have plagued his time at Ibrox.
Huge boost
Clement’s side has been decimated by injuries over the festive period, particularly in a number of key areas and it will come as a relief to the Rangers boss and their supporters that slowly but surely, players are getting back to full fitness.
If Rangers are going to be able to beat Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title this season, they are going to have to have as many of their most important players fit and available as often as possible and that includes Lawrence.
The Welshman has had an incredibly frustrating start to life in Glasgow as he missed the bulk of his first season at Ibrox through injury and has been in and out of the side in the first half of this campaign with repeated fitness concerns.
It feels as though Lawrence picks up a new knock or niggle every time he really begins to find his feet at Rangers. He’ll be hoping that once he has managed to shake off this latest issue, he’ll be able to stay fit and available for an extended period of time.
Rangers look a much better side when the Welshman is playing so hopefully he’ll be back up to speed come the end of the winter break.
