Derek Clark shares new Kieran Dowell update as Rangers man missing in La Manga

Kieran Dowell has jetted out to join Rangers on their warm weather training camp during the winter break on Friday 12 January, according to Derek Clark.

The Rangers Review journalist reported on his X account on Friday (12 January) that the English midfielder is joining the rest of Philippe Clement’s side in La Manga for the remainder of their mid-season camp having not originally travelled with the squad.

Dowell didn’t make the trip with the rest of his Ibrox teammates originally because of a personal matter but will be a part of the squad from Friday ahead of the Gers’ friendly clash with Hertha Berlin on Saturday 13 January.

Explaining the situation, Clark wrote: “For those asking about Kieran Dowell on today’s show…he’s joining the squad today, didn’t travel with the team due to a personal matter.”

Better late than never

Clement would have likely preferred to have Dowell available to him for the entirety of the winter training camp but it is good news that the Englishman has managed to join up with the rest of the squad in La Manga, even if only for a short period.

After a slow start to life at Ibrox, the midfielder seemed to begin to settle and find his feet in Clement’s side over the festive period. His goalscoring display against Motherwell was excellent and he also impressed in wins over St Johnstone and Kilmarnock.

Hopefully, following the conclusion of the winter break, the 26-year-old will be able to kick on and build from those displays at Ibrox to finally hit the heights most supporters hoped he would during his time in Glasgow.

Whether his development will have been impacted by the delayed arrival in La Manga remains to be seen, but when he is fully fit and firing, Dowell is just as gifted as any of Rangers midfielders and would be one of the first names on the team sheet.

Let’s hope that supporters will get another glimpse of him in action against Hertha Berlin on Saturday.
