Barry Ferguson moots two more Rangers incomings during January transfer window

Barry Ferguson has mooted the possibility of Philippe Clement completing two more incoming transfers at Rangers during the January transfer window.

The Light Blues have already added to their squad this month, with the signing of Fabio Silva on loan from Wolves for the second half of the campaign, but as Rangers look to leapfrog Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership that may only be the start.

Clement has managed to free up some wages at Ibrox by allowing Sam Lammers to leave on loan for the second half of the season and Ferguson expects the Belgian to use that money to add to his squad with two new signings.

Writing for the Daily Record (12 January) he said: “That’s good management in my book and I’m also positive he has made that decision to free up some wages for at least one more January signing.

“Possibly even two. As things stand – with Kemar Roofe and Danilo still months away from returning and Abdallah Sima off to the Africa Cup of Nations – he needs to bolster his options in attack.”

Business to be done

Rangers need to get some business done during the January transfer window. The signing of Silva on a temporary basis is an excellent start to the month, but the Light Blues need further reinforcement than just the Portuguese forward.

As Ferguson suggested, Clement hasn’t got too many forward options available to him with Roofe and Danilo sidelined, Sima away with Senegal and Cyriel Dessers in a terrible vein of form.

Rangers

Rangers have to sign a new number nine before the end of the month and ideally, that will be a player capable of scoring 20 goals a season. Lawrence Shankland is the obvious suggestion at Hearts, but it remains to be seen whether the Gers will pay his asking price.

It could be a busy few weeks in Glasgow as the end of the transfer window closes in, especially if Clement follows Ferguson’s advice and tries to make two new additions. Should any more players leave Ibrox, even more signings could be required.
