Strict FIFA rule emerges as Rangers transfer update on new striker drops
Strict FIFA rules could put rumours of Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt joining Rangers in January to bed very quickly, according to Football Scotland.
The Daily Mail first reported interest from Rangers and Celtic on 8 January, with a loan move said to be potentially on the cards this month.
However, it has now been reported that Leeds are not looking to add Gelhardt to their list of players currently out on loan, with rules limiting international temporary exits.

Only six players can be loaned out to international clubs, something Rangers would class as, and Leeds already have five of their relegated squad away from Elland Road.
Gelhardt is said to have a high resale value, so a permanent move would be more likely, it seems, if any exit was to be sanctioned by the Championship club.

No Secrets.
Philippe Clement has made it very clear that he is on the lookout for a new striker this month, and the links have followed that with numerous names mentioned.
Gelhardt has been followed by Fenerbahce hitman Michy Batshuayi on 10 January [Scottish Sun], with both appearing to be shut down already.
With Danilo out injured long term and the possibility of Cyriel Dessers potentially joining Abdallah Sima at the African Cup of Nations, the need for a new addition is growing by the day.
Sam Lammers has also since left Ibrox to join up with FC Utrecht on loan, so that should also accelerate any plans to bring in another number nine.
There is ground to make up domestically and European football to offer with one piece of silverware already secured this season, Rangers are certainly on the up.
Gelhardt may not be one name joining, but more positive news will hopefully arrive soon.
