Rangers transfer news: Ridvan Yilmaz representatives in talks with Verona and Torino for January transfer

Ridvan Yilmaz’s representatives have held talks with Serie A clubs Torino and Verona about a January exit away from Rangers, according to Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (10 January), the Turkish journalist reports that the player isn’t interested in a move back to his homeland right now but does want more regular game time.

And his representatives are in talks with two Italian sides after they scouted him in recent performances for Rangers, with a January exit still on the cards.

“Ridvan Yilmaz’s priority is to stay in Europe,” he wrote.

“Verona and Torino are in talks with the player’s representative and sent scouts to Ridvan’s last three matches and gave a positive report.

“If Ridvan cannot reach an agreement with the teams that want it from Europe; Only then can the Super League be an option.”

Strange

This whole situation seems to be very strange, because whenever Yilmaz has been given an opportunity at Rangers he has taken it and played well.

His biggest issue at Ibrox has been injuries, which have seen him miss large chunks of the season during his time here and have allowed Borna Barisic to keep a chokehold on the position.

But recent weeks have seen him stay fit and keep his place ahead of Barisic, who has injuries himself and is out of contract in the summer, so it’s odd that Gers are seemingly looking to move him on still.

With no replacement close to being brought in right now, it would be a weird decision to allow him to leave to a club playing in a top five European league when he hasn’t really had a true opportunity to make it here.

Rangers should be giving him until the summer at least to either make it or prove that he can’t do what is needed at this club, but if a big bid comes in then it may make more business sense to allow him to go early.
