Rangers: Overseas journalist makes ‘serious’ transfer admission amid interest in signing exit-linked Ridvan Yilmaz
The first choice for Ridvan Yilmaz if he decides to leave Rangers and return to Turkey will be to join Besiktas, according to Ahmet Selim Kul.
Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel on Thursday (11 January), the Haberturk TV journalist said fellow Super Lig club Galatasaray are currently showing “serious interest” in signing the Turkey international.
But he added that he expects Besiktas to “join the race” for the 22-year-old left-back after he came through the Turkish side’s academy before making the switch to Ibrox in 2022.
“I can say Galatasaray have really serious interest, but I believe that Besiktas also will join this race,” said Selim Kul. “If Ridvan decides to return to Turkey, I think his first choice will be Besiktas.”
Bidding war
It looks as though there is a good chance Yilmaz will leave Rangers in this transfer window following the interest from a number of clubs in signing him.
Alongside the Turkish teams, he has also been linked with a switch to Hellas Verona in Italy, with Philippe Clement seemingly keen to strengthen at left-back.
It doesn’t come as much of a surprise as Borna Barisic is out of contract at the end of the season and Yilmaz has failed to make much of an impression since making the move to Glasgow.

But the Turk has forced his way into the reckoning more since the new Gers boss arrived at Ibrox, having started in each of the past four league games.
That doesn’t appear to have improved his chances of remaining with the Light Blues beyond the January transfer window, though, as the rumours continue to fly around about his potential exit this month.
