Rangers ordered to pay compensation fee as Ibrox legal battle concludes

Rangers have been ordered to pay former kitman Jim McAlister a fee of almost £13,000, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper reported on its website on Thursday (11 January) that the fee must be paid after McAlister was unfairly sacked at Ibrox.

The Daily Record noted that the former Dundee and Greenock Morton midfielder has won his legal battle against the Gers.

“The 38-year-old is now working with Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia in another behind-the-scenes position,” according to the Daily Record.

“But an employment tribunal in Glasgow has found Ibrox chiefs liable for McAlister’s ‘unfair dismissal’, saying they were in ‘breach of contract’ over his departure last year.”

Not good

The legal battle certainly isn’t a good look for Rangers, and they can now be thankful that it has been brought to an end.

All parties involved can now move on, but the Ibrox club must learn from this in order to avoid any future issues regarding their employees.

The total sum involved could have been put to much better use at the Scottish outfit, with this latest behind-the-scenes issue simply another unwanted distraction for the likes of the board and even manager Philippe Clement.

The boss will want to focus solely on matters on the pitch as he looks to continue his impressive time in the Ibrox dugout.

The club have upcoming friendlies against Hertha Berlin and Cophenhagen during this winter break, returning to competitive action with a Scottish Cup fourth round test against Dumbarton next Saturday (20 January).

There has been enough upset at the Ibrox club with McAlister’s unfair dismissal, with the Gers desperate to avoid an upset on the pitch when they travel to Dumbarton.

In other Rangers news, Nils Koppen has set his sights on South American transfers at Ibrox, according to Chris Jack.
