Ibrox board sources share Rangers transfer stance on January move for Tashreeq Matthews
Rangers are not interested in signing South African winger Tashreeq Matthews during the January transfer window, according to The Fourth Official.
The outlet reported on their Patreon page on Thursday (11 January) that a source close to the Ibrox board had confirmed that the Light Blues were not looking at the 23-year-old as a potential option during the transfer window.
Philippe Clement is expected to add to the forward areas of his squad during the January window, with Fabio Silva already arriving on loan from Wolves, but Matthews will not be one of those making the switch to Rangers this month.

Reports emerged from the South African outlet SNL24 (8 January) that the Light Blues were keen on the 23-year-old winger and had even expressed an interest in his services, but faced competition from Kaizer Chiefs and AZ Alkmaar.
On to the next
The link with Matthews was an exciting one for Rangers supporters as it appeared as though the Light Blues had begun to scout a relatively untapped market to attempt to find a real difference-maker for the second half of the Scottish Premiership season.
Matthews has impressed during his time in Sweden and even spent time with German giants Borussia Dortmund, so links with such a talented player were always going to get supporters excited.
But it appears as though links between the Gers and the 23-year-old were nothing more than usual transfer window gossip as the Light Blues don’t appear to have any interest in signing the South African wideman before the end of the month.

Rangers need to add to their forward line, particularly in the wide areas given the lack of options available to Clement. The Belgian prefers to play with genuine old-fashioned wingers, but the Gers don’t have many players of that mould in their squad.
Hopefully, some more positive transfer news will emerge in the next couple of days before the end of the Scottish winter break so Rangers supporters can get a bit more excited about the Gers’ return to action.
