Dean Jones shares ‘sensational’ update on January transfer race for Oscar Zambrano amid Rangers links
Dean Jones has admitted that it would be “sensational” if Rangers manage to sign Oscar Zambrano during the January transfer window, as the race for his signature continues.
Reports emerged earlier in the window that both the Light Blues and Celtic were interested in signing the 19-year-old midfielder this month, but Bournemouth had moved into pole position to secure his services [Graeme Bailey, 5 January]
While Jones also believes that the Cherries lead the race for the Ecuadorian midfielder, the deal is not yet completed and has suggested that Rangers could build their side around the teenager.

As quoted by Give Me Sport (11 January) he said: “This would be a sensational transfer if you could persuade someone like this to pick Rangers over some of the clubs that have been linked with him across recent months.
“The signs have been that he would end up in the Premier League. As I understand it, Bournemouth continue to be interested in the player and would be the team probably leading the race to sign him. But that doesn’t mean they win the race. There have to be other considerations as to what will suit him.
“But if Rangers could somehow get involved with that and win the battle by signing him, they would be acquiring an unbelievable player that completely changes the landscape for how they could look to build that team.”
Sensational
Rangers need to sign players this January that are going to make a real difference to Philippe Clement’s team at Ibrox. Too many of the Gers’ summer arrivals have been ineffective this season and the same cannot happen again this month.
Bournemouth may be leading the race for Zambrano’s services but it is clear that no agreement has yet been reached and the Light Blues must take their opportunity to secure this “sensational” deal.

Jones’ assessment is that the Ecuadorian could change the entire shape and model of Clement’s side and he could be the sort of player that they build a team around. Such an excellent chance cannot be ignored by the Gers.
The gap is there for Rangers to get involved and try and hatch a deal. Hopefully, they will make the most of it and supporters could get to see the 19-year-old lining up in light blue rather than red and black.
