Scott Brown details Rangers and Celtic change he would like to see
Scott Brown has urged Rangers and Celtic to bring back the away fans when the two sides go head to head in the Old Firm.
Speaking at a Scottish Gas media event on Tuesday (9 January, via Clyde 1 Superscoreboard), the former Hoops captain said the games are “hard” when you’ve got no fans there as you’ve got to have the “understanding” with your supporters.
He believes the away support was stopped because the Parkhead club “kept winning”, adding that the current gap between the two clubs is “quite big” following Celtic’s 2-1 victory in the Old Firm clash on 30 December.
“The Rangers and Celtic games, it’s always hard because there are no fans there,” said Brown. “That’s the hard thing, you’ve got to go away from home, see your fans as well.
“I think they should maybe get that back because you’ve got to have that understanding with your fans. The fans want to see you at Ibrox as well, scoring and celebrating. It’s part and parcel of the game. It all stopped when we kept winning, so I think that’s maybe why that stopped.
“Celtic have got a strong squad as you’ve seen the gap when they played the other day there, it’s quite big. The way Celtic pressed, the way they got after the ball, the quality they’ve got, I think that’s the difference.”
Needs to happen
While the Rangers fans won’t agree with Brown on many things, most people will agree that away fans should be brought back into the Old Firm games.
It definitely takes away from the occasion when both clubs don’t have their own supporters in the stadiums getting behind their teams.
But the problem is, it doesn’t seem as though either side are going to back down over the issue, so it could take some time before the away fans are allowed back.

In terms of the gap between the two sides this season, though, the former Hoops captain isn’t quite right as the Gers have been in excellent form over the past couple of months.
While Brendan Rodgers’ side were the better team on the day when they played each other last month, the Light Blues have shown signs that the gap is closing under Philippe Clement.
In other Rangers news, a Sky Sports pundit has shared who would be a “terrific” signing for the Gers.
