Rangers: ‘Truly terrible’ reaction emerges after Sam Lammers January transfer window development
Sam Lammers was a “truly terrible signing” for Rangers and his imminent departure therefore works out all round, according to Heart & Hand.
The former club partner reacted on Twitter on 9 January to the news that FC Utrecht were working to bring in the Dutchman on loan during the January transfer window, to wish for the best back in the Eredivisie after a half-season at Ibrox which has proven miserable.
The club officially announced the move on Wednesday afternoon (10 Januay) but David Edgar, behind Heart & Hand, had already made his view clear.
He reacted to the news, saying: “Utrecht trying to get Lammers on loan would seem to suit everyone really.
“Hope he smashes it but a truly terrible signing unfortunately.”
Write off
When Michael Beale was targeting Lammers from Atalanta in the summer as part of his extensive overhaul of the Rangers squad his lack of goals in recent seasons jumped out – nine total across four seasons.
At the time it was assumed that the then-manager had a plan and that other areas of the 26-year-old’s game would prove crucial to the new-look side.
Instead his low scoring return continued and too often there was little of anything else as he struggled to adapt to the Light Blues play, although he was admittedly far from alone.

Whether he ever plays for the club again remains to be seen, but it is fairly probable that both sides will be aiming to ensure he doesn’t as the move hasn’t worked and Lammers appears to need a new environment.
If FC Utrecht can work out a permanent deal at the conclusion of his loan it would benefit the under-pressure forward as he has barely had time to settle anywhere in recent seasons after numerous loan moves.
But he will need to recapture some of the Eredivisie form he showed earlier in his career over the next few months to improve the prospects of securing a longer-term opportunity.
In other Rangers news, a club is in fear of what would happen if the Light Blues sign their star man this month.
