Hellas Verona bid now expected to sign Rangers left-back Ridvan Yilmaz as Sky Sports update emerges from Italy

Hellas Verona are now expected to make an offer to sign Rangers defender Ridvan Yilmaz in the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster reported on its website on Wednesday (10 January, 14:41) that Sky in Italy expect the relegation-threatened Serie A side to make an offer for the Turkish defender as they look to prise him away from Ibrox this month.

Yilmaz has featured 13 times for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership so far this season and was an integral part of Philippe Clement’s side during the festive period, starting all of the Light Blues last four matches in the league.

Replacement required

It seems like Yilmaz has been nearing the Ibrox exit door for some time now with links emerging between him and Verona for the entirety of the January transfer window, but Rangers cannot afford to leave themselves short of options.

The Turkish defender hasn’t managed to live up to his price tag during his time in Glasgow, but he has shown in flashes why the Gers were so keen to secure his services from Besiktas back in 2022 and his presence will be missed in the side.

Without the 22-year-old, Clement will only have Borna Barisic as a genuine option at left-back for the remainder of the season and while the Croatian is more than capable, he has struggled with both fitness and injury issues so far this season.

Barisic’s contract also expires at the end of the season and the Light Blues cannot leave themselves without a left-back heading into next season. Clement and the rest of the team above him at Ibrox need to find a replacement before they accept any bid from Verona.

Otherwise, their hopes of lifting the Scottish Premiership at the end of the season can be kissed goodbye. With news emerging that a bid is incoming, Rangers need to get their act together quickly.
