Ferguson reacts to Rangers transfer news with new Sam Lammers update at Ibrox

We’re delighted to welcome former Ibrox star Derek Ferguson as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points in Govan…

Rangers can do some “good business” by offloading Sam Lammers during the January transfer window as he cannot handle the pressure at Ibrox, says Derek Ferguson.

The Dutchman could seal his exit to FC Utrecht imminently according to Tutto Mercato Web (10 January), just six months after joining from Atalanta.

Lammers has been arguably the worst of all nine summer signings made during a poor recruitment drive from former manager Michael Beale with the 26-year-old scoring just two goals in 31 games across all competitions.

Ex-Rangers player Ferguson, speaking to Ibrox News, thinks it is the right decision for all involved to cut ties as the move simply has not worked out.

“He’s struggled big time, Lammers. You feel for the boy a little bit,” he said.

You can see he’s neat, he’s tidy, he’s quite a technical player but that’s not enough if you play for Rangers, you’ve got to handle everything that goes with it – the pressure I don’t think the boy handles it that well.

I think it would be good business if we could get him out on loan, he could go and play football somewhere else.

“Sometimes for whatever reason it doesn’t quite happen at certain clubs, it’s not going to happen for Lammers it’s clear to see. There’s other guys coming back to fitness so I think that would be a good decision all round if he was just to go and play his football somewhere else.”

In other Rangers news, a transfer twist involving Marseille has occurred with an Ibrox-linked player.
