‘Concrete’ update emerges as Rangers want to sign Michy Batshuayi from Fenerbahce in January

Rangers want to sign Michy Batshuayi from Fenerbahce in January but his wages are a stumbling block in any deal, according to Sacha Tavolieri.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (10 January), the reliable Belgian journalist reports that the player has been proposed to the Ibrox club and they have added him to a list of targets.

However the club haven’t proceeded with a deal yet due to his £58k per-week wages which are seen as “very high” for a Scottish club, so the wait continues on if the transfer will take place.

“Lot of interest regarding Michy Batshuayi this [winter]..” he wrote.

“Player has been proposed to Rangers FC who put player on a list but there’s yet no concrete intention to proceed as wages are very high for a Scottish club.

“The Belgian striker earns €3.5m per year (£3m p/y – /£58k p/w) at Fenerbahce so…

“Wait and see..”

Wow

There’s no doubting that if Batshuayi signed for Rangers that he would be the best striker at the club, and by some distance too.

The forward has scored goals wherever he has gone and his record speaks for itself, especially at international level with Belgium.

But with such high wages things need to be thought about wisely and with all of Danilo, Cyriel Dessers, Kemar Roofe and now Fabio Silva on the books it would have to make sense.

If the player was willing to take a wage cut or Fenerbahce willing to pay some of his wages for the duration of a loan then it would certainly be feasible and he could be the difference maker in a tight title race.

However at this stage it seems more like agents at work and a pipe dream than anything realistically taking place this month, and Rangers will likely need to look elsewhere if they still want to add another forward to the squad.
