Brick wall hit as Rangers enter talks for brand new transfer in Ibrox update

Rangers look set to walk away from a potential January transfer move for Fenerbahce striker Michy Batshuayi after hitting a brick wall in tentative talks, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper reported via their website on 10 January that, after some basic fact-finding talks, the Ibrox club have withdrawn their interest in the striker who has also been linked with a move to Everton.

Bathsuayi is currently earning £60,000 per week in Turkey, which may have contributed to Rangers walking away from the deal despite Philippe Clement lodging his interest in his fellow countryman.

Move on to other targets

If his reported wage is accurate at £60,000, Rangers are better off assessing their other January transfer targets and moving on. At 30 years old, he isn’t going to get any better, and his record of three goals in 11 Turkish league games this season isn’t exactly eye-catching.

It is, however, clear that Rangers are looking for a pure goalscorer to add to their ranks following the arrival of Fabio Silva. Batshuayi falls into that category, as does Lawrence Shankland, with Clement keen on bringing in a source of guaranteed goals.

With an extensive list of options on the table at Rangers, they will have no shortage of choices as they move on from the Batshuayi deal, with the remainder of the January transfer window expected to be busy in Glasgow.

This deal never got off the ground, but with Silva’s arrival, Rangers’ intentions for the window have been made clear, with the speed at which they assess the potential deals a notable aspect of their business so far.

In other Rangers news, the club want to sign a young defender now.
