Rangers: Sam Lammers option-to-buy update emerges from Ibrox as Utrecht close in on transfer
Sam Lammers’ loan switch from Rangers to FC Utrecht will not include a fixed fee to make the deal permanent, according to The Herald.
The news publication reported online (9 January) that Lammers is close to sealing a loan move to the Eredivisie outfit, with a deal expected to be announced within the next 48 hours.
It will see the Dutch attacking midfielder make a return to his homeland after a difficult spell in Glasgow, where he has scored just twice and provided as many assists across 31 appearances for the Gers.

The 26-year-old was brought to Ibrox by former manager Michale Beale in a £3.5million deal from Serie A side Atalanta (Sky Sports News, 16 June) and has seen his game time limited since the arrival of Philippe Clement in mid-October.
Logical
It makes sense that Lammers would be moved on from the club in January.
To say that the attacking midfielder has struggled to make an impact would be an understatement, and he is clearly not in Clement’s immediate or seemingly long-term plans. Therefore, a move away from Scotland seems like the best solution for all parties involved.
Lammers will be keen to get his career back on track in the Netherlands, where he started his journey into football.

Rangers also stand to benefit the most from this deal. By not including a fixed fee in the loan agreement, it allows them to control negotiations over Lammers’ future in the summer. Should he score at an impressive rate during his time with Utrecht, Clement might be keen to take another look at the player.
If he underwhelms, then Rangers will have to reapproach the situation and his future in the summer.
In other Rangers news, one young player at the club has sealed a loan exit away from Ibrox.
