Ianis Hagi set for Ibrox return as new man after Rangers loan recall update
A plan has always been in place for Rangers loanee Ianis Hagi to stay with Alaves until the end of the season, despite speculation of a January return.
Football Scotland reported that Rangers did not include a recall option in the player’s initial loan contract, which means the 25-year-old has another six months to continue his development away from Ibrox.
With the Gers suffering from a plague of injuries throughout the current season, Hagi could have offered Clement an option in midfield, despite naturally deputising on the wing.
The Belgian has been without Ryan Jack, Jose Cifuentes and Nico Raskin at different parts of the season, with the first and second suffering from long-term injuries.
Some fans were arguing that current loanee Hagi could be the perfect fit for Clement’s squad amid the plethora of absentees, possessing the ability to play as an attacking midfielder too.
Whether using him in midfield or on the wing, especially with top goalscorer Abdallah Sima departing for the 2023 African Cup of Nations, fans have been confused as to why the idea of the Romanian ending his loan spell six months early looked to have been snubbed.
The player has endured a successful six months, making 17 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and registering one assist.
However, it is understood that the two clubs would need to come to an agreement over Hagi’s loan deal, rather than Rangers possessing the ability to just end the player’s stay without permission from Alaves.
This has settled a lot of concern over Hagi’s future at Ibrox. And the player is now free to develop for a further six months before coming back to the Scottish club and playing under Clement.
He could come back a new man.
