Insiders share fresh update on Rangers January transfer chase for Kevin van Veen

Insiders in the Netherlands have claimed FC Groningen want to sell Kevin van Veen in January amid a possible January move to Scotland, according to Sikkom, although Rangers are not interested.

The Dutch news outlet shared on 7 January that Hugo Hovenkamp regularly speaks with former Gers man Arthur Numan, who has claimed the Ibrox club hold no interest in Van Veen.

This is despite the striker previously claiming that Rangers are interested in his signature, having told media he rejected a summer move to Ibrox [Daily Record, 4 January].

Another rumour squashed

Despite Van Veen’s insistence that Rangers are interested – perhaps born out of hope rather than any truth – it appears there is no interest in the 32-year-old, despite the fact his club are willing to let him leave permanently after just six months in the Netherlands.

With that rumour squashed, the focus will turn to other reported targets, with Philippe Clement desperate to improve his squad and provide more balance in the coming month to help boost the chances of challenging Celtic for the SPFL title.

Despite the links to Van Veen apparently being false, there is an acceptance that Rangers will look to bring in another striker in the January transfer window to add to the loan signing of Fabio Silva and reinforce their firepower.

Lawrence Shankland has been the name most prominently linked with the move. The boyhood Gers fan is the current top scorer in the SPFL, and a deal to bring him to Ibrox would make too much sense to ignore if the transfer team can get it done.

In other Rangers news, £3million news has emerged on a transfer deal today.
