Contract update emerges on Bournemouth keeper Will Dennis amid Rangers and Celtic links

Rangers and Celtic target Will Dennis, who is on loan at Kilmarnock, has signed a contract extension at Bournemouth, the club announced.

Daily Record reported on 20 December that the two Old Firm sides wanted to sign the 23-year-old, whose contract was then running out at the end of the season.

However, Glasgow Times then reported on 8 January that those claims were wide of the mark, with him signing a two-year extension at the Vitality Stadium.

Not needed

Rangers pursuing Dennis would likely be an unnecessary expenditure considering the exceptional form of their current number one Jack Butland.

The English goalkeeper, who moved to Ibrox in the summer, has performed impressively, showcasing reliability and making crucial saves.

With Butland holding the number one position and demonstrating consistency, investing in another goalkeeper like Dennis could be deemed redundant.

Rangers

Allocating funds towards strengthening other areas of the squad might be a more prudent approach for Rangers.

Utilising financial resources for positions that require reinforcement or depth would make more sense, especially given the strong goalkeeping performance already provided by Butland.

While Dennis has been notable during his loan spell at Kilmarnock, pursuing him may not align with Rangers’ current squad needs and Philippe Clement is unlikely to lose any sleep over failure to sign him.

In other Rangers news, a senior player will pass his medical in the January transfer window despite a groin worry as Gers are battling Celtic to sign him.
