Rangers: Sky Sports pundit wowed by Owen Beck amid Ibrox transfer speculation – ‘terrific signing’

Owen Beck would be a “terrific” signing for Rangers amid the recent transfer speculation surrounding the Liverpool defender, according to Kenny Miller.

Writing on the Daily Record website on Sunday (7 January), the Sky Sports pundit said the Gers should look to bring in the 21-year-old left-back if he’s available following his recall from his loan spell with Dundee in the first half of this campaign.

He added that the Light Blues should look to act on their interest in the Welsh U-21 international now before another club comes in first to snap him up.

“Don’t get me wrong, if the chance is there to sign Owen Beck from Liverpool – who has really impressed me on loan at Dundee – I’d do it,” said Miller.

“He’d be a terrific signing if he’s available. And the reason I’d do it now is to get in before someone else moves first.”

Get it done

It’s no surprise that Rangers have been linked with Beck after he put in some excellent performances during his loan spell with Dundee.

The Dens Park club will have been extremely disappointed to learn that the left-back, who registered two goals and two assists in 17 SPFL appearances, was being recalled following Liverpool’s injury problems in defence.

But if he is available for a transfer again during this window, then Philippe Clement is right to be interested in bringing him in as the left side of defence appears to be an area he is keen on strengthening.

With Ridvan Yilmaz on the verge of joining Hellas Verona and Borna Barisic out of contract at the end of the season, the Gers certainly could do with finding a long-term successor to the role during this window.

Whether or not that will be the Welshman is anyone’s guess, but the Light Blues could do far worse than the defender as they look to challenge for more trophies this season.
