Rangers: Derek Ferguson says only ‘one outcome’ to emerge from SFA row amid ‘tit-for-tat’ verdict

Rangers need to avoid getting into a “tit-for-tat” row with the SFA over the controversy involving the Old Firm derby, Derek Ferguson has said.

The Light Blues requested Willie Collum to no longer be involved with their matches after being left furious with the failure to award a penalty for handball against Alistair Johnston in 2-1 Old Firm defeat at Celtic on 30 December.

The SFA later released a statement noting their fury with Rangers after private details about discussions between the two parties were reportedly leaked, inciting more rage over Collum, who was the VAR for the fixture.

“It’s all a blame game all the time,” he told Ibrox News.

“You look at the SFA the referee situation they don’t want to go against their colleagues, that’s the worry with VAR because if that’s their colleague, their friend, the guys in the same kind of workplace.

“And it’s as if they’re trying to back each other. I think Rangers were quite right to ask the question but I think there’s only gonna be one outcome. you don’t wanna get into a tit-for-tat.

I think they were quite right to go and ask the question but I don’t wanna get into that too much because there’s a lot of history between the SFA and Rangers.”

The furore was made worse when stills were released by the SFA showing that Abdallah Sima would have been offside in the build-up so the penalty would not have been awarded anyway.

But many pundits are arguing that the initial decision should have been to give the penalty then the VAR to go back and overrule the spot-kick for the offside infringement.
