Graeme Souness provides double January transfer tip to Rangers amid ‘game on’ title prediction

Graeme Souness has recommended Rangers sign two goalscorers in the January transfer window if they want to put pressure on Celtic in the race for the title.

The Ibrox legend claimed that, under the guidance of Philippe Clement, there is plenty for Rangers fans to look forward to, but they will need to sign players to resolve their goalscoring issues.

He also insisted there is reason to be optimistic despite the 2-1 defeat in the Old Firm derby after Rangers performed well and created chances that they failed to take.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mail [5 January], Souness shared: “I was there for the Old Firm derby and I swear there is none to match it anywhere in the world.

“Rangers will be disappointed to have lost 2-1 but acquitted themselves very well throughout – even when they went down to 10 men. The best chances fell to them.

“The club have a great deal to look forward to, especially if they can strengthen in this window. They are two goalscorers short and if they can resolve that, it will be game-on for them.

“I like the way Philippe Clement has set his team up. I liked the way they tried to play last week.”

Rangers getting business going

After the arrival of Fabio Silva on loan from Wolves, the transfer team at Ibrox are showing no signs of slowing down, with plenty of links to several players as they look to strengthen Clement’s options ahead of the second half of the season.

Souness will be pleased that another striker appears to be top of the list when it comes to new recruits, with Lawrence Shankland heavily linked with the move, as well as Emmanuel Dennis and Kevin van Veen.

Rangers

Goals have been an issue for Rangers since the season began, with summer arrivals Cyriel Dessers, Danilo and Sam Lammers failing to live up to expectations, while Kemar Roofe’s awful injury record continues to plague his Ibrox career.

Clement has spoken of a need to strengthen the squad and restore balance, with strikers the main focus, but a number of other players have been linked in what is expected to be yet another busy transfer window in Glasgow.

In other Rangers news, the path is clear for Gers to seal another January deal.
