Rangers unlikely to recall Ianis Hagi from Alaves loan as Michael Beale transfer link emerges

Rangers are unlikely to recall Ianis Hagi from his loan spell at Alaves this month, but he won’t be heading to Sunderland with Michael Beale either according to The Sun.

Writing on their website (5 January), the news outlet report that there is nothing in rumours that ex-Gers boss Beale wants to reunite with the Romania international at the Stadium of Light.

But Hagi also won’t be returning to Ibrox early from his loan spell in Spain, with Philippe Clement unlikely to recall him early meaning he will stay in La Liga for the full season.

“Speculation linking Beale with a move for Ibrox misfit Ianis Hagi is also wide of the mark,” they wrote.

“The Romanian – who has spent this season on loan with Alaves in Spain – is also unlikely to be recalled by Gers.”

Sensible

Attacking reinforcements may be something high up on the priority list of Clement this month, but Hagi isn’t someone who needs to see his season interrupted right now.

Fabio Silva has already joined as a striker option and there are rumours flying that Emmanuel Dennis could arrive from Nottingham Forest too, which means Hagi would simply found himself further down the pecking order.

With Sam Lammers tipped for an exit less than six months after joining the club, the number ten position is one that is a little bit light in numbers but Clement likes pace and Hagi is short in that department.

The 26-year-old has made 14 appearances in Spain so far and registered just one assist, so the chances of him coming back to Ibrox and making a real difference seem unlikely.

This is the best option for everyone and then the player and club can look ahead in the summer and re-evaluate the situation then.
