Rangers: Sam Lammers transfer rumour by Daily Record is complete nonsense as Chinese whispers start

With the January transfer window now open and clubs around the world open for business, there has already been plenty of speculation surrounding Rangers’ plans for the next month.

Plenty of players have already been linked with a move to Ibrox, whether it be Lawrence Shankland, Kevin van Veen or Josh Doig, but so far only Fabio Silva has joined up with Philippe Clement’s side on loan from Wolves.

However, as new players arrive in Glasgow, some are expected to leave Rangers this month and one man who has seen the Chinese whispers already begin over his future is Sam Lammers whose status in his squad has been the subject of plenty of speculation.

Rangers

The Daily Record shared reports on Friday morning that Lammers was potentially of interest to Sunderland, now managed by Michael Beale, with the Mackems supposedly keen on signing the Dutchman on a temporary basis from Ibrox.

In their report, the Scottish outlet credited the Newcastle Chronicle (5 January) as the source of these links, with that online publication suggesting that the Rangers “flop” is in the offing for a Championship loan move this January, with the Black Cats one side linked.

The report which the Chronicle has based its report on comes originally from Glasgow World (4 January) who once again suggest that Lammers could be set to move to the Stadium of Light, but suggest that such links have been created from social media rumours.

Such social media rumours originated from a Transfer Scotland on Twitter on Wednesday (3 January) who claimed that there is plenty of interest in the Rangers attacker from Championship sides this season, with Sunderland the only team named.

Rangers

That Twitter account only boasts a following of just over 6,000 people and has no obvious credibility when discussing transfers in and out of Rangers and these reports on Lammers’ future at Ibrox appear to be nothing more than Chinese whispers.

There is every possibility that the 26-year-old will depart Glasgow this month having seemingly fallen down Clement’s pecking order in recent weeks, but these reports of a reunion with Beale seem to be nothing more than transfer window gossip.

Maybe such a move could come to fruition over the next few weeks, but as of the 5 January, you shouldn’t bet on seeing Lammers in red and white stripes this season.

In other Rangers news, reports have suggested that Lawrence Shankland wants to make the switch to Ibrox this January
