Rangers transfer news: Update emerges on Alex Lowry sale in January

Alex Lowry, who is on loan at Hearts until the end of the season, will not be sold by Rangers in January, according to information by This Is Ibrox.

The reliable podcast on all things Ibrox claims that at this stage, there are no plans from the Gers hierarchy to let go of the 20-year-old.

The Scotsman has been a reliable first-team option this term, making 12 league appearances for Steven Naismith’s side.

Via Twitter, This Is Ibrox wrote, “Hard no on the sale of Lowry at this stage.”

Good news

The 20-year-old has already made a handful of appearances for the first team and is viewed as future first-team player at Rangers.

Rory Wilson, who was at Ibrox, before joining Aston Villa has billed the attacking midfielder as a “top class” player.

Lowry has showcased his ability to compete at a competitive level and allowing him to continue developing in the same league will provide valuable experience and aid his progression.

Rangers

Having him gain more exposure in the SPFL can prepare him for the challenges of the top flight, making him better equipped to compete for a first-team spot at Rangers in the 2024/25 season.

This patient approach reflects a commitment to nurturing young talent within the club, aligning with Rangers’ tradition of developing players from their youth system for future success.

He’ll also be worth more six or 12 months from now as he’ll have more first-team games under his belt so selling him now, makes very little sense.

In other Rangers news, a sensation at a big-name Premier League club is the perfect long-term defensive option for Gers and a January transfer must be on the cards.
