Rangers: Sam Lammers loan-to-buy exit from Ibrox already on the cards – Chris Jack

Sam Lammers is “more likely” to be loaned out by Rangers than sold this window should any clubs show an interest, according to Chris Jack.

Herald Scotland journalist Jack shared an update on Lammers’ future at Ibrox on The Rangers Review podcast [4 January, 19m 43].

The former Netherlands U21 international has struggled in his first half-season in Glasgow since joining from Atalanta in the summer window.

To make matters worse for Lammers, Fabio Silva has joined on loan from Wolves and other attacking players – Rabbi Matondo among them – have recently returned from injury lay-offs.

Jack said: “It’s more likely to be a loan with an option to buy, then Rangers can bring that particular agreement to an end.

“Lammers has not proven to be good value for money, he’s not been good enough and not someone who will be missed.

“There’s players coming back, players coming in, and they’ll be ahead of him in the pecking order.

“It’s a move that hasn’t worked out and I don’t see a future for Lammers after the end of the season. If that can be brought forward by six months it will be the best for all concerned.”

No future

Lammers is yet another of Michael Beale’s signings that simply have not got going since arriving at Rangers.

While some such as Cyriel Dessers have showed moments of promise, and others like Abdallah Sima have been very good, Lammers has just simply been poor.

Rangers

The 26-year-old is stuck on just two goals and one assist from 17 Scottish Premiership outings this season, 10 of which have been starts.

Lammers struggles to have an impact on 9/10 games and, with more options now becoming available to Philippe Clement in the final third, it is hard to see where he fits in.

That said, he was signed for around £3million [Sky Sports, 16 June] and Rangers will not want to take a hit on that payment.

A loan until the end of the season in order to hopefully get him back in form and raise his profile may be a better bet than making the odd cameo appearance at Ibrox here and there.

Either way, it is difficult to see a future for him at Rangers beyond this season.
