Rangers make approach to sign Liverpool defender Owen Beck as Anfield transfer decision made for January
Liverpool have knocked back an enquiry from Rangers to sign defender Owen Beck in the January transfer window, according to Simon Jones.
The Daily Mail journalist, writing in his Window Watch column (4 January, page 65) shared that the Gers approached to sign the defender who’s done “exceptionally well” [This is Anfield, 23 October], according to Dundee United manager Tony Docherty where he’s spent the first half of the season.
Beck has been recalled from his loan spell at the Scottish Premiership outfit and Liverpool have rebuffed an approach as he is needed as cover for Andrew Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas at left-back.

Intentions clear
It is clearly going to be a disappointment at Ibrox if a player they hoped to install straight into Philippe Clement’s starting XI is off-limits.
Rangers are certainly making their intentions clear as they are desperate to sign a new left-back in the January transfer window and Beck could well have been an attractive proposition given his age profile and stunning potential.

It seems Liverpool have made their decision which means Clement and Nils Koppen will have to look elsewhere for left-back targets and they’ve already identified one other attractive proposition in Fredrik Oppegard.
However, none of these developments spell good news for Borna Barisic and Ridvan Yilmaz at Ibrox though and it seems Clement is planning to replace one of them immediately already.
Yilmaz has been too on and off since his move in 2022 and is still yet to convince at the club while Barisic is out of contract in the summer with his immediate future now very much unclear.
The Gers are certainly doing their due diligence in eyeing potential targets but Beck seems out of reach, unfortunately.
In other Rangers news, the Gers have reportedly already prepared a new £2.5 million bid for another January signing
