Chris Sutton and Kris Boyd clash over Rangers team of the season so far as ‘Massive’ claim made

Kris Boyd and Chris Sutton have clashed once again live on air after naming their Scottish Premiership team of the season so far, with 3 Rangers players named.

While speaking live on Sky Sports (4 January), the pundit duo were asked to name their best team of the season so far and they both agreed on the trio of Jack Butland, James Tavernier and Abdallah Sima being included.

But the two clashed when Sutton picked Celtic’s Cameron Carter-Vickers despite his injury issues but left Connor Goldson out of the team for the same reason, while also disagreeing on other positions in the process and taking digs at each other throughout.

“Jack Butland in goal, James Tavernier at right-back,” Boyd said. “Sima I’m going to play off the left hand side.”

“In goal Jack Butland, I’ll give Kris that,” Sutton said. “You’ve got to have James Tavernier in albeit there’s always this question mark about him defensively, but his numbers are incredible.”

Sutton then picked Frankie Kent to play in central defence alongsid Carter-Vickers despite the latters injury woes, which led to Boyd questioning why Goldson isn’t in the team.

“So why is Goldson not in it then?” he asked, before Sutton replied.

“He’s been good, but I’m just prioritising with Frankie Kent and his importance to Hearts.

“I take your point with Goldson and Balogun, I can say well played guys, you’ve done well, but I’m going to put Frankie Kent in ahead of you.

“Sima from Rangers, I think he’s been crucial for them. I think a large section of the support weren’t sure about him but I think he’s been a massive, massive player for them.”

Once again Chris Sutton has made it abundantly clear that he’s not interested in being a neutral pundit when it comes to discussing Scottish football, and it’s just about getting one over on Rangers all the time.

His reason for putting Carter-Vickers in the team of the season so far was that he’s the best in the country, despite the fact he has suffered with injuries all season, but Goldson who many would argue is better or as good at least isn’t in the team.

At least he didn’t look to argue when Butland, Tavernier and Sima were included in the team, because it’s obvious there isn’t really an argument to be had about it.

But as Boyd said towards the end of the segment, Sutton simply just had to put his Celtic buddies into the conversation to ensure he has their fans on his side.

It doesn’t matter if it’s true or not, Sutton will always make an argument that suits his agenda and until Rangers start winning consistently again then we have to just listen to it.
