Hamilton agree deal to sign Rangers midfielder Ben Williamson as permanent Ibrox exit edges closer

Ben Williamson is set to sign a deal with Hamilton as a permanent switch from Rangers is edging closer, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper reported on its live transfer feed on Wednesday (3 December, 11:40am) that the 22-year-old Scottish midfielder is set to pen a deal with the League One club as they look to add reinforcements to strengthen their promotion bid.

The Gers academy product has been sent out on loan several times over the past three years, with his six-month loan spell at Championship outfit Partick Thistle ending this week.

No surprise

It doesn’t come as much of a surprise to learn that Williamson is edging closer to a move away from Rangers after failing to force his way into the first-team reckoning at Ibrox.

Since coming through the club’s ranks, he has never managed to make a senior appearance after heading out on loan five teams over the past three years.

Partick decided not to extend his sixth-month loan spell with them after he only made seven starts for the club in his 12 outings in the first half of this campaign at Firhill Stadium.

It’s unlikely the Gers will receive much of a transfer fee – if anything at all – for the midfielder due to his lack of value to the club.

The Light Blues are probably just keen to allow him to go out and earn some regular first-team football as it’s clear he doesn’t have a future in Glasgow.

In other Rangers news, one player is surely finished at Ibrox after a signing has already been confirmed.
