Chris Sutton takes swing at Rangers duo Cyriel Dessers and Todd Cantwell amid Willie Collum development after loss v Celtic

Chris Sutton has taken a wild swing at Cyriel Dessers and Todd Cantwell and questioned Rangers motives for demanding VAR audio after their Old Firm defeat.

The Gers demanded VAR audio of the non-penalty decision in the defeat to Celtic after Alistair Johnston’s handball, but haven’t received it after the SFA refused.

But Sutton, writing on his personal Twitter account (1 January) questioned why they wanted it and claimed the club are simply looking for someone to blame for the loss, and suggested they look closer to home as he performed better than some of their players did on the day.

“The blame game,” he wrote, accompanied by an eye-roll emoji.

“What is Rangers motive wanting the VAR audio on an irrelevant situation? Willie Collum’s performance wasn’t anywhere near as bad as Dessers and Cantwell.. and maybe other clubs will want certain answers.”

Ridiculous

Obviously once again Sutton has completely missed the point when discussing anything to do with Rangers.

The point isn’t looking for blame for the result. The blame lies with the players for not finishing the chances they created on the day when they were the better team, rather than not getting a penalty.

Rangers

But that doesn’t change the fact that Rangers should have got a penalty for a blatant handball, and the officials only got out of it by finding an offside an eternity after they decided not to give the original decision.

The commentators on Sky Sports made it clear that they heard no mention of an offside, hence why Rangers have asked for the audio to begin with.

Sutton likes to make everything about himself and likes to make everything about Celtic, so obviously he had something to say. But now the players need to step up and finally shut him up, because he’s been allowed to speak freely for far too long.
