Tom English instantly reacts to ‘Devastating’ Rangers v Celtic footage

Tom English was astonished as Kyogo Furuhashi fired past Jack Butland as Rangers crashed to a 2-1 defeat against Celtic on Saturday 30 December.

The BBC journalist labelled the effort as “devastating” with Rangers haunted once again by the Japan international seconds after the half-time break.

Rangers missed plenty of chances throughout the game at Parkhead and will be kicking themselves over not taking a point if not all three.

“Kyogo haunting Rangers yet again. What an absolute pearler that is,” English commented via Twitter on Saturday (30 December).

“Lovely footwork and a devastating finish, 2-0.”

Deja vu

Butland must experience nightmares at the thought of Furuhashi, who fired home the only goal in the return fixture earlier this season at Ibrox.

This was the worst possible start to the second half for Rangers. Having failed to take multiple chances in the first half and feeling cheated out of a penalty decision on Alistair Johnston, there was little hope of a Gers comeback.

Rangers

Only five teams that have opened the scoring in the last 100 Old Firm derbies have gone on to lose the fixture. And with Paulo Bernardo’s goal doubled by the Japanese star, Celtic Park was bouncing with no Rangers fans in the ground.

It was an awakening result for Philippe Clement as he suffered his first defeat since taking over the managerial post in October.

The title race is far from over though, and the gap will be back down to two points if Rangers can win their games in hand after the winter break, that has to be the motivation.

In other Rangers news, a journalist has tipped one player to be a “surprise” star under Clement at Ibrox.
