David Edgar destroys Cyriel Dessers after what he did in Rangers loss v Celtic

David Egard, host of official Rangers partner Heart & Hand, has claimed Cyriel Dessers is one of the worst signings in the club’s history after his shocking performance against Celtic.

Dessers started the game as the spearhead of Philippe Clement’s side, but once again failed to impress, and missed Rangers’ biggest chance of the game when one-on-one with Joe Hart.

The striker has received plenty of stick for a slow start to his Ibrox career, but this may prove the final nail in the coffin for him given the importance of the fixture and the context of Rangers’ season.

Taking to Twitter during the game, Edgar wrote: “Dessers pound for pound has to be among our worst-ever signings.”

Once again, the striker failed to step up

In what has been a disappointing half-season for the Nigerian, he finally appeared to have turned his fortunes around with a couple of goals in recent weeks, including one in the crucial Europa League game in Seville against Real Betis, but once again he showed he simply isn’t good enough.

It seems harsh to be so clear-cut about that after such a short spell at Ibrox, but it’s time to call a spade a spade. Dessers isn’t good enough to lead the line in a Rangers team that wants to win silverware and he continues to prove that.

Heading into the January transfer window, Clement and the backroom transfer team have moved quickly to bring Fabio Silva to the club on loan from Wolves in a display of how clearly they see the need to improve their attacking options.

Clement Rangers

Whether Dessers remains in Glasgow beyond the transfer window will be interesting to watch, but the numbers Clement wants to bring in could spell an end to his Ibrox career regardless of his own future.
