Chris Sutton fires Callum McGregor jibe at Rangers star Todd Cantwell after Celtic defeat
Chris Sutton has fired a new jibe at Todd Cantwell, suggesting the Rangers midfielder should “watch Callum McGregor DVDs” following the defeat to Celtic.
Philippe Clement tasted defeat for the first time since arriving in Glasgow at Celtic Park on Saturday (30 December) as Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops ran out 2-1 winners thanks to impressive strikes from both Paulo Bernardo and Kyogo Furuhashi.
The only bright spark for the Gers was an excellent consolation goal from James Tavernier in the closing stages, but Sutton was quick to criticise Cantwell in particular for his performance, suggesting the Englishman could learn from Celtic’s captain.
Writing on his personal Twitter account on Saturday (30 December) he said: “If I was Todd Cantwell I’d watch Callum McGregor DVDs…”
Not good enough
Cantwell is supposedly meant to be one of Rangers’ best players but once again the Englishman was unable to produce in an Old Firm derby as he was fairly anonymous before his early substitution at Celtic Park.
When the 25-year-old is at his best, he can be a real difference-maker in Clement’s side, but when he plays like he did on Saturday it comes across as though he isn’t interested and the Celtic midfield barely had to break a sweat to keep him quiet.

Since Clement arrived at Ibrox, there has been much discussion about how the Belgian has utilised the attacking midfielder, but that excuse has now passed as the Englishman is playing in his preferred position but still not performing regularly enough.
It’s not what Rangers supporters will want to hear, but Cantwell could do worse than take note of McGregor’s performance on Saturday. The Scotsman ran the show from the middle of the park in the manner that most expect from the Rangers star.
Hopefully, the disappointing performance against Celtic was just a blip in the 25-year-old’s season and he’ll be back to his best against Kilmarnock.
In other Rangers news, Neil Lennon has admitted he would have “apoplectic” if he was Clement after one decision in the Old Firm clash
