Kieran Dowell axed, Jose Cifuentes starts as Connor Goldson decision made – Predicted Rangers XI v Celtic

Philippe Clement could be set to make some changes to his Rangers starting lineup for the huge Old Firm derby with Celtic on Saturday afternoon.

The Gers claimed a routine 2-0 win over Motherwell at the weekend but saw their midweek clash with Ross County postponed due to poor weather, meaning Celtic’s win over Dundee on Tuesday sees them come into this clash five points clear at the top of the league having played two extra games.

But with injuries rife at Ibrox currently, Clement has some big decisions to make on his starting lineup heading into the biggest game of his short reign so far.

In goal Jack Butland will undoubtedly get the nod between the sticks as Robby McCrorie continues to wait for his chance under the manager, and the defence will need all of his leadership and experience.

Captain James Tavernier will be expected to keep his place at right-back having been in fantastic form in recent weeks, but key man Connor Goldson looks set to miss out after picking up a groin problem in the final minutes of the win over Motherwell.

That should see Leon Balogun keep his place in the side, and he should be partnered by Ben Davies in the middle with John Souttar and Leon King likely to have to settle for a place on the sidelines.

At left-back Borna Barisic missed the last game and Ridvan Yilmaz has taken his opportunity well, so the Turkish international should start.

In midfield John Lundstram, Ryan Jack and Nicolas Raskin are all still injured so could miss the game which should see Dujon Sterling continue in his new midfielder role where he has impressed, and with Jose Cifuentes available once again after suspension he should slot in alongside him for more defensive stability in a big away game.

Todd Cantwell remains a key cog in the team and since playing in his favoured number ten role his performances have improved so he will get the nod there once again.

On the wing Abdallah Sima has been in fantastic goalscoring form from the left and will get the nod there, while Ross McCausland has made the right-wing spot his own ahead of Rabbi Matondo and Scott Wright.

Up front Danilo and Kemar Roofe are still unavailable, so Cyriel Dessers will be keen to continue his recent good form ahead of fellow summer signing Sam Lammers.
