Graham Dorrans slams Rangers transfer news after Fabio Silva confirmed
Graham Dorrans has slammed Rangers’ decision to sign Fabio Silva on loan from Wolves, suggesting a move for Lawrence Shankland is a better option for the Gers.
The Light Blues announced the signing of the Portuguese forward on loan for the second half of the season on Thursday (28 December) but the deal includes no option to make Silva’s stay at Ibrox permanent next summer.
While the signing of Silva may help solve the striker problem facing Philippe Clement in Glasgow, Dorrans believes that the Belgian would have been better off signing Shankland, instead of targeting a temporary fix with a loan addition.

Speaking on Go Radio Football Show (28 December, 45:30) he said: “He’ll be looking at this an opportunity to come in and score goals and kick start his career because if he wants to go back there and play at Wolves, this is a six-month loan deal with no option to buy which I’m not a big fan of.
“In his mind, he’ll want to come here and do well to go back down there, so I would have liked it to be an option to buy because if he does come up and do well then the Rangers fans and the club will want to keep him.
“But with the way these deals are structured now if he does come up here and does well, he’ll be going back down to play for Wolves or be sold for a lot more money.
“I think the Lawrence Shankland one is a better option in my opinion. If they go for a Shankland and he scores the goals to win them the league, he’s still here next year so you don’t then have to look again at another option.
“I would have liked them to get a permanent in, whether that was Lawrence Shankland or somebody else, I’m not a massive fan of loan deals without the option to buy.”

Wait and see
This does feel like a short-term fix for Rangers, rather than a long-term solution to the striker problem that Clement currently is facing at Ibrox.
As Dorrans has suggested, there is every chance that Silva will be able to provide the goals to fire the Gers to the Scottish Premiership title this season, but they will then be faced with the same problem again in six months’ time.
Should the Portuguese forward set to the world alight in Glasgow, he will more than likely no longer be in Rangers’ price range and the Light Blues will be unable to extend his stay beyond the initial deal and will again be left with Cyriel Dessers and Danilo.
Hopefully, Clement will still find a more permanent solution in January on top of the addition of Silva and then Rangers will have managed to kill two birds with one stone during the course of the transfer window.
In other Rangers news, John Hartson has urged the Gers to complete a new multi-million addition in January which would win them the title
