Chris Jack shares whether Rangers will pay £80,000 per week Fabio Silva wage

Chris Jack has claimed he would be surprised if Rangers were paying the rumoured £80,000 per week to Fabio Silva to cover his wages after signing the striker on loan from Wolves.

Jack claimed it would likely be a big financial outlay for the Glasgow club, but the £80,000 per week fee [GIVEMESPORT, 26 December] would be out of their wage budget and therefore very unlikely.

Silva joined on loan from Wolves on 28 December as Philippe Clement targeted a new striker to help provide a consistent source of goals in their continued title challenge.

Speaking on The Rangers Review [29 December], Jack shared: “I wouldn’t have thought so. If they are, fair play to them for doing so, but I think that’s slightly out of the wage budget right now. I’d be surprised.

“I know there was a report last night saying that Rangers are covering the wages, but if it’s anywhere near £80,000 I’d be surprised.

“Yes, it may be a fairly big financial outlay, not as big as 80 grand a week, but I think it’s going to be a fairly big financial outlay.”

Rangers won’t overspend

Despite the reports of a possible £80,000 per week outlay on Silva’s wages and Jack’s claim that the fee would not be as high as that, it will have to be considered that the Rangers board will not want to overspend in the transfer window with other targets in mind.

Clement has spoken at length about a need to balance the squad, and while Silva is a strong start to that ambition, an outlay as big as that would likely be withdrawing from the available funds to target further signings, making it unlikely.

Silva joins with a damaged reputation following his struggles in England after moving to Wolves for a reported £35million but has the opportunity to thrive in Scotland as Clement’s top striker target to add goals to a team that has lacked a consistent outlet this season.

If he can adapt to Scottish football as the boss will be hoping, the heavy financial outlay will be well worth it, particularly if Rangers go on to reclaim the SPFL title, even if the fee isn’t quite as high as some may have thought.

In other Rangers news, a permanent move for Silva could be on the cards in the summer.
