Rangers to pay portion of Fabio Silva wages as January transfer from Wolves agreed
Rangers will not pay all of Fabio Silva’s wages when he joins the club on loan for the rest of the season in January, according to The 4th Official.
Writing on his website (28 December), the journalist reports that the Glasgow giants will pay a portion of the Portuguese forward’s wages during his time at the club, and there is no buy option in the deal either.
Silva rejected interest from Celtic to join the Ibrox club with a deal expected to be confirmed shortly, ahead of the transfer window opening officially on Monday.
“We can confirm that Fabio Silva will be moving to Rangers on loan until the end of the season. It was reports in Portugal first that claimed that both Rangers and Celtic are interested in the player, but now a decision has been made by the forward to make the move to Glasgow Rangers,” they wrote.
“Wolves had already agreed to the deal and the player finally made up his mind to come to Rangers earlier in the week.
“There is no option to buy included in the agreement. The Scottish club will be paying a portion of the wages of the Portuguese player.”
Perfect
It’s been clear that financially Rangers aren’t in the strongest of positions this winter after the big outlay during the summer for Michael Beale.
We’re not in a position to offer up a tonne of cash for Philippe Clement to spend on his own players, but a loan deal for a player he is clearly a fan of makes a lot of sense.

The likelihood however is that Silva is probably on quite large wages having joined Wolves in a then-club-record deal worth around £35m despite his age, so having to pay all of that would have been an issue.
But Wolves clearly aren’t looking to use him much going forward this season and we need someone who is a clinical finisher when given the chance, which is exactly what Silva has proven to be at Anderlecht last season and with the Portuguese youth teams.
It’s a stellar bit of business before the window has even opened, and financially it will hopefully mean that there is still room for more business if needed.
In other Rangers news, Fabio Silva has already visited Ibrox with Wolves transfer about to be announced.
