Rangers: Fabio Silva shares cryptic message as Ibrox transfer update emerges, Old Firm loan deal agreed with Wolves

Wolves outcast Fabio Silva has shared a cryptic message on Instagram after reports of an agreed transfer deal to Rangers or Celtic.

DiMarzio journalist Luca Bendoni reported [28 December] that a loan deal had been agreed between Wolves and one of the Old Firm teams but it is not yet clear as to which are involved.

In addition to this, the Wolves player posted a story on Instagram of an hourglass, suggesting that it could only be a matter of time until the deal is announced and the Portuguese striker moves to Scotland until the end of the season.

It is understood that as part of the deal, Wolves will receive a small loan fee with the Scottish side covering his wage while on loan at either Ibrox or Celtic Park.

Short-term fix

Silva’s career at Wolves has been a disappointing one, especially having showcased his skills and talent during his recent loan spells with Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven.

The 21-year-old spent six months with the former team first, scoring 11 goals in 32 appearances before scoring five times in 19 matches in the Netherlands.

However, he has only managed five goals in 72 Wolves appearances since Wolves paid a club-record fee for the then-18-year-old. [BBC Sport]

With Matheus Cunha and Hee-Chan Hwang in fine form, especially the South Korean, and Pedro Neto nearly returning from injury, there is little to no space for Silva in Gary O’Neil’s team.

A loan spell in Scotland makes sense while the Midlands club figure out what to do about the young forward, who has failed to thrive in England since his transfer from FC Porto.

And Rangers fans will be hoping they are the ones who will see Silva arrive rather than their bitter Celtic rivals, with Philippe Clement experiencing his own striker problem.

Cyriel Dessers has only just hit a rich vein of form, and with Kemar Roofe and Danilo injured, the Gers could use another attacker until the end of the season.

The African Cup of Nations presents yet another cause for concern, with Rangers’ top goalscorer Abdallah Sima likely to be called up by Senegal next month.

In other Rangers news, the Gers assistant coach Stephan Van Der Haydan has reacted to the postponement of the clash with St Mirren
