Rangers: David Edgar shares Fabio Silva opinion following transfer update
David Edgar is hopeful of Fabio Silva having a similar impact to Brighton loanee Abdallah Sima at Rangers with his loan move now officially confirmed.
With Fabrizio Romano confirming a “here we go” for Silva to Ibrox on a six-month loan deal earlier, excitement is there for the arrival of Wolves’ club-record player but his impact in England has some questioning the player.
The Hearts & Hand podcast founder has gone for the more optimistic route, hoping that the 21-year-old can offer a dangerous attacking threat going forward, supporting the likes of Sima, Todd Cantwell, Cyriel Dessers and Ross McCausland.
When asked for his thoughts on the deal on Twitter (28 December), Edgar replied: “Talented player, lost way a bit at Wolves. Hopefully has same impact as Sima.”
Good business for all parties
And Edgar is exactly right. Silva was a huge prospect when he arrived from Portugal in 2020 but has never lived up to his reported £35.6million price tag, as per BBC Sport.
His previous season was spent out on loan with Anderlecht, where he tallied up 11 goals and four assists in 32 appearances, before spending the second half of the season with PSV Eindhoven, scoring five goals and assisting a further two in 19 matches.
Although Silva has made 10 appearances for Wolves this season, only three of them are Premier League starts and is yet to make a goal contribution in the league.
Living up to the expectations set by Sima, who is currently on loan from the top flight of English football, will be extremely difficult for the young forward. But it will be important for all parties involved that he develops and gains some confidence back.

Philippe Clement is struggling to nail down a starting striker this season. Kemar Roofe’s season has been plagued by season, recently being sidelined again, while Danilo is also injured.
Cyriel Dessers has hit a purple patch but with only nine goals in 28 appearances as one of the most experienced forwards in the squad, Rangers are still in need of a poacher.
Sima has been an incredible revelation since his move to Ibrox but the African Cup of Nations could bring a halt to that next month, with Senegal likely to call him up to the squad.
Silva can be seen as a clever short-term fix for the Gers and will benefit Wolves in the long run, especially having offloaded his wage packet to the Scottish giants.
In other Rangers news, Joshua Barrie has shared what he has been told about the Gers’ chances of signing another of their rumoured January targets.
