Philippe Clement will surely wield axe on Cyriel Dessers at Rangers after Fabio Silva development
There was some good news for Rangers supporters shared by Fabrizio Romano on Thursday (28 December).
For a long time now, pundits and supporters alike that talked of the need to add more firepower to their ranks, and that was even before Danilo was laid low for the long term by a knee injury.
Now, Fabio Silva is on his way from Wolves on a loan deal until the end of the season according to Romano, who shared the update on his X account.
“Fabio Silva to Rangers, here we go! Deal in place between Scottish club and Wolves — agreement reached on loan until June. Portuguese striker will sign the contract soon,” he wrote.
“Clement and Koppen, crucial to make it happen. There will be NO buy option clause included.”
So, here we are, a few days to go until the window opens, and two days before a huge Old Firm clash at Celtic, and Rangers already have their man.
While it is good news for Clement, good news for Silva, and good news for Rangers supporters, there is one man who is unlikely to benefit and that is Cyriel Dessers.

The 29-year-old striker has been a much-maligned figure at times this season at Ibrox and it is hard to imagine he will not be axed in favour of Silva, who Wolves will surely expect to play a prominent role.
And, truthfully, based on recent form it would be a pretty unfair axe for Clement to wield.
Dessers has four goals in his previous seven outings and five over the past 10 – a ratio of one goal every two games, not a bad return for a man who has come in for staunch criticism this season.
Of course, you can never have enough good players, especially when Rangers have done so well to muscle their way back into title contention.
But Dessers might feel a little hard done by if he is to immediately lose his spot to Silva, especially given he has started to find some real form in front of goal as late.
In other Rangers news, John Hartson has shared who else the Light Blues should be looking to sign in January.
