Celtic make Fabio Silva transfer decision as Rangers development emerges ahead of January window

Celtic decided not to pursue a deal for Wolves striker Fabio Silva, which left the door open for Rangers to make their own move, according to Sun Sport.

The two Old Firm rivals were linked with a loan for the Portuguese ace but Fabrizio Romano reported on Thursday (28 December) that it was Rangers who were going to complete the move.

Romano reported on X that Rangers had agreed a deal to take Silva on loan until June, which has now been officially confirmed by the club.

However, Sun Sport (28 December) added that Rangers’ path was cleared by Celtic’s decision to look at other options.

The newspaper reported online that the Bhoys were offered the chance to sign Silva but they opted to not to press ahead with the move.

Big boost

This is exactly the news Rangers fans would have wanted to see as we close out 2023 and look towards 2024, but more importantly, a big boost just a couple of days prior to the huge Old Firm clash against Celtic.

With Danilo out for the foreseeable future with a knee injury and Kemar Roofe unable to stay fit, it left Philippe Clement with only Cyriel Dessers available as an out-and-out striker.

Dessers has been in good lately but he has also come in for a lot of criticism at times this season, so the need for firepower was pretty obvious.

rangers

So, it is a great start to the transfer window that Rangers will be adding Silva to their ranks – a player who Wolves reportedly paid £35million for when he joined in 2020.

Let’s hope he can hit the ground running and play a big role as Rangers look to muscle the Scottish Premiership from Celtic this season.

In other Rangers news, a former Celtic ace has told the club they should also be looking to complete another striker signing.
