Sky Sports journalist slams anti-Rangers whining as ‘remarkable’ run continues
Andrew Dickson took to Twitter to hit out at the conspiracy surrounding Rangers’ penalty record in the Scottish Premiership.
The Scottish side have gone 73 league games without conceding a penalty, nearing two years since the last spot-kick against the Gers.
Some fans have suggested that there is a conspiracy against the rest of the league and that the referees are favouring Rangers inside the penalty area. However, Dickson is having none of it, criticising those who are whining about the record.
“I’m not sure what’s more remarkable… That Rangers have gone 73 league games in a row without conceding a penalty or that this may well be Day 73 in a row I’ve logged onto Twitter to find someone whining about it,” the Sky Sports pundit wrote on Twitter on Wednesday (27 December).
A wild conspiracy
There will always be unhappy fans when it comes to football. And with Rangers, it is more often than not Celtic fans claiming an unfair advantage for their rivals.
However, it is highly unlikely that there is some kind of conspiracy against the rest of the league. Have any fans stopped to think that Rangers “get away with” things in the penalty area because the defenders are just more careful?

Probably not, because that would not feed anyone’s agenda when it comes to Rangers’ record of zero penalties conceded in 73 league games. Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun are two extremely experienced central defenders, and so is James Tavernier on the right.
The defensive veterans will demand nothing but perfection in the box and that shows with no penalties conceded in the Scottish Premiership since the 2021/22 season.
There will always be examples of times when referees could give penalties. But it is such a subjective topic that there will never be a time when everyone is happy with the outcome. The complaints sound more like an excuse for their own downfalls on the pitch.
